Official results so far released Monday by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) have put Ernest Koroma of the APC far ahead with 107,341 followed by Solomon Berewa of the SLPP with 33,041, while PMDC Charles Margai is third with 5,817 votes.

The results according to NEC are from the districts of Bombali, Port Loko, Tonkolili, Western Area Urban and Western Area Rural. In Bombali  the APC secured 18,583 votes while SLPP secured 1,415 votes, in Port Loko APC secured 17,621 while SLPP secured 2,115.In both Western Area Rural and Urban it was landslide for APC with 69,590 votes while SLPP got 29,311.

The total voters tallied so far is 160,536 and the total voters for the candidates is 150,374.The difference between the two figures is the number of invalid votes.

While the vote counting entered its second day yesterday,  the Sierra Leone capital was reported tense  following the alleged closure of the APC radio station by the ruling government for what is believed to be unauthorized and uncertified reporting of election results by the station. This action is believed to have enraged APC supporters who had relied on their station for results coming direct from their representatives in the various polling stations around the country.

Meanwhile, according to a BBC World Servive report, Election Observers have declared the presidential and parliamentary polls free, fair and credible. The EU's chief election observer, Marie-Anne Isler Beguin, said she was satisfied with how the election was conducted. Some political observers have however warned that it is too early to declare the elections as free, fair and credible since only less than 10 per cent of the votes have been counted so far.
